All General Store participants are encouraged to try sampling. Sampling is held twice daily, for a two-hour period, with up to twelve participants handing out free samples of their products. Many samplers bring someone to assist them due to the large number of Fair visitors that come though during sampling sessions. Samplers have said that they have seen an increase in their General Store sales because they can interact directly with fairgoers. Whether you're interacting with fairgoers about your product or telling them your unique story, sampling provides the perfect opportunity for both. Non-food products can also be ‘sampled’. For instance, displaying children’s books, applying beauty products, or touching tooled leather goods, etc.
Start and end times for sampling slots are strictly enforced. Failure to comply will result in cancellation of all your remaining sampling slots. Cancellations or no-shows made less than 48 hours in advance of the start time of any sampling slot will incur a $100 cancellation fee. This fee will be deducted from final sales and may impact eligibility for participation in any future GO TEXAN events. See Sampling Guidelines (Section 8) of the Participant Terms and Conditions for rules.
Health permits are required for the sampling of all food products, and permits are obtained by TDA on behalf of all participants. Due to an increase in the cost of health permits, General Store sampling prices have increased.
To offer any product samples to pavilion visitors, your product must be for sale in the GO TEXAN General Store.
