Volunteer Expectations

Volunteers at STEP are critical to strengthening STEP's services to St. Louis Park families and to cultivating a community that supports the work and mission of the organization. Through the hard work of volunteers, STEP is able to provide for the basic needs of St. Louis Park families.

To ensure that we all work together in the best way possible, we ask you to read through the following expectations and put your INITIALS in the box after each item:
CONFIDENTIALITY: STEP expects volunteers to keep information about STEP clients private and confidential. Please do not share this information outside of STEP and your volunteer duties.*
AGE REQUIREMENTS: Volunteers under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. There is no minimum age to volunteer at STEP. But if your child is younger than 5, we encourage you to have a conversation with STEP's Volunteer Coordinator.*
WHAT TO WEAR: Volunteers are strongly encouraged to wear close-toed and comfortable shoes. STEP's warehouse area can be very warm (summer) or cold (winter) depending on the season--please dress accordingly.*
SHIFT START & END TIMES: Individuals should arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before and no later than 10 minutes after their shift start time. Depending on the tasks needed to accomplish and the number of volunteers, the shift may end earlier than the end time.*
SHIFT LEADERS: Each volunteer shift will be led by a STEP Staff Member or a Lead Volunteer. This individual will greet the group and lead activities for the shift. If you have any feedback about the shift leader, please contact STEP's Volunteer Coordinator or Director.*
VOLUNTEER TASKS: Please bring a positive attitude and flexibility to the tasks assigned. Volunteers will most likely be working in the Food Shelf or Clothes Closet. All tasks are essential to the smooth running of services and a welcoming environment for STEP and the clients STEP serves. The last 10 minutes of each shift is for clean-up to prepare the space for providing services.*
CANCELLING GROUPS: In the rare occasion that STEP must cancel a volunteer shift at the last minute, STEP will do its best to inform volunteer via an email and a phone call. STEP will do its best to inform volunteers with as much time as possible and post signage at the STEP buidling. Volunteer shifts are cancelled if STEP lacks the tasks to keep volunteers working for at least an hour or if an emergency occurs for the staff person or volunteer leading the group.*
PHOTO RELEASE: I give permission to STEP to use photos/videos that may include me or members of my household, for publication or to be kept on file for future publications. I hereby agree to allow STEP to use my image for promotional purposes.
