Disabled students and allies at Smith are coming together to organize a visibility and education event about the experience of being a young disabled person in a society that largely undervalues us. This event will have two main components: an educational aspect and a personal storytelling component. For the educational portion, we are looking for facts/excerpts to go on the backs of approximately 400 chairs which represent the number of students registered with the Office of Disability Services.
These submissions will be on display during the day-long event on Chapin Lawn, which will happen on April 3rd.
Community members, allies and orgs, we need your help!
We are soliciting submissions for the storytelling component of this event. If you have prose, poetry, or song that you would like to perform or have performed on your behalf, please submit your piece below. We have a limited number of open slots, so please do not be discouraged if yours is not featured in this event. If we cannot find time for your piece to be performed, we will try to have it posted on the back of a chair for visitors to read.
Please include the name you would like your submission to be credited to - you may choose 'Anonymous,' your first name only, last name only, a nickname, etc. We just want to be able to credit this to you the way that makes you feel most comfortable! Please also include your graduation year. If you are not a current student, please select 'other.'
We hope that you will perform your own submission, but if you would feel more comfortable having a friend or volunteer perform, please indicate so on this form. If you are performing, enter your email in the contact email section. If a friend is performing for you, please enter their email. If you would like a volunteer to perform for you, please enter 'firstname.lastname@example.org' into the form.
Submissions that are short and text-only may be submitted using the text box below. Submissions that are longer, or include visual aspects, such as artwork should be submitted using the file upload section. We will not be editing your work for grammar or spelling so please use spell-check!
