About VertNet Services
These next few questions are going to ask you about your experience with VertNet services.
Beyond the portal VertNet provides services to help people with:
(1) Data Set Publication - including personalized guidance and support to move data from database to published archive, free hosting of published data sets, and technical support to individuals and institutions who wish to create their own Darwin Core Archives or install independent instances of the Integrated Publishing Toolkit.
(2) Data Quality Improvement - such as customized data migration software created to address the content and needs of each unique data set, creation of a data quality report for each data set prepared for publication, user-initiated issue tracking and notification services (via GitHub), testing against VertNet’s geographic gazetteer, taxonomic validation, standardized vocabulary services, and creation of metadata associated with each data set.
(3) Statistics and Reporting - about what can be found within the portal and monthly reports to each data publisher detailing the number of download events, total number of records downloaded, total number of unique records downloaded, locations seeking data, dates when queries where made, a breakdown of query terms used, and more.
(4) Customer Service - including help with using the portal, joining the network, finding additional data beyond VertNet, georeferencing and biodiversity informatics training, technical support of all kinds (not just for the portal), and a response to every message we receive via our feedback form.
(5) Training and Capacity Building - on topics such as georeferencing, biodiversity informatics, data quality and data publishing.
