Senior Staff Positions & Descriptions
The National Model United Nations Conference is Sponsored by the NCCA
There are typically six Under-Secretaries-General (USGs), one for: General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Development, Human Rights & Humanitarian Affairs, Peace & Security, and Conference Services. There is one of each of these positions at each conference.
Substantive USGs work with Directors and Assistant Directors (ADs) on the writing and editing of the background guides within the deadlines set by the Secretary-General (SG) and the Deputy Secretary-General (DSG). They are expected to help suggest committees and topic areas and be aware of the rules of procedure for committees in their department. They must keep in contact with their Directors, ADs, and the SG/DSG. At both Fall training and at the conference, they help train the staff. They are responsible for the substantive affairs of their department.
The USG for Conference Services works closely with the Network Manager, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistants (AAs) to build a conference service team. In advance of the conference, this USG coordinates vendors and contracts along with the NCCA/NMUN staff. At NMUN•NY, this individual is responsible for the computer center, copiers, etc.
In addition to their primary responsibility before the conference for the NMUN•NY Delegate Seminars, this individual will also assist with use of United Nations facilities, awards tabulations, and other duties as assigned. The reporting structure will be to the NMUN•NY Secretaries-General and NCCA/NMUN staff.
Chief of Staff/Assistant Chief of Staff
The areas of responsibility for the Chief of Staff team include conference and training logistics, communication with staff (including newsletters and staff blog), providing travel and accommodation information, and management of staff events. These are critical positions to the health and well-being of the staff before and during NMUN•NY. Each conference has one COS position and one assistant COS position.
