  • Some things you should know when working with us:

    1.     To become a Rescue Partner with Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society (RCPAS) you must complete the Rescue Application and agree to the Rescue Commitment Expectations. Your rescue must have been in exsistence for at least a year, you must have 2 good vet references, a good shelter reference and a good local animal control reference. Following your confirmation of each animal you will be notified when they are available and when you either need to pick them from transport or from the shelter. We will ask for follow up proof of pictures of the animals and proof of vetting done.

    2.     Please use the email addresses rcaps2011@gmail.com to state which animals you are interested in saving. When you reply to confirm animals, please include your email address, what rescue you work with and a contact phone number along with the animal name. Dogs are not heartworm tested until a rescue confirms them (unless otherwise noted). If you CANNOT take a HW+ animal, please mention it when you confirm. If heartworm status is not acceptable once it is determined you may decline to take the dog.

    3.     We CANNOT guarantee the health or behavior of an animal. The animals have not been examined by a veterinarian unless otherwise noted. If you have committed to an animal and it becomes sick you are responsible for any medical expenses incurred after the commitment date. If you would like the animal to have any kind of treatment (ie: worming, flea/tick treated) before the date of transport and the animals needs to be taken to the vet and boarded it is your responsibility to communicate with the vet and be sure what you want done is done and all expenses are paid by you. All boarding fees occurring if an animal is pulled before the transport date will be paid by you. We will do our best to raise some sponsorship money which is usually sent the Monday after transport minus the price of the heartworm test, health certificate, any vet expenses occurred before you committed and paypal fees. This sponsership money will only be sent if the rescue recieving the animal has filled out the application and has recieved confirmation that they are an approved rescue parnter.

    4. If you are the rescue pulling the animal and there comes a time when you decide for any reason you cannot rehome the animal yourself you must contact RCAPS and let them know. We do not allow any animal to be transfered to another rescue group without our consent. We do our best to make sure all rescues taking animals have certain procedures and abilities in place and do this for the safety of the animals.

5.If at any time the Rescue feels the need to put down the companion animal they have recieved from RCAPS they MUST notify RCAPS before the companion animal is put down. RCAPS then reserves the right to reclaim the animal and any an all monetary funds given that have not been used to help the companian animal. If RCAPS is notified that the companian animal has been put down without prior notice RCAPS has the right to recieve any an all monetary funds given for the companian animals back and will no longer allow this rescue to pull animals from them.

    TRANSPORT GUIDELINES

-If you cannot meet transport along our regular route on I-95 from Henderson NC- Ridgefield NJ you must set up your own transport. The van will leave Henderson at 10pm Fri or Sat night and arrives ealry Saturday or Sunday morning. The last stop pick up in Ridgefield NJ is usually somewhere between 6am and 8am.

-In order for animals that are non-vance animals to go to a rescue on the vance/rcaps transport the rescue must be pulling from the Vance County Animal Shelter (RCAPS - please be sure you know which shelter you are pulling from) that same week

-The current donation to ride the van is $50 per crate (ie: a litter of 4,  8-12 wk old pups (depending on breed) could possibly fit in one medium/large crate a litter of 4, 6 month old pups would need at least two crates so the donation needed would be $100 for them. Vance animals have ticket to ride links created and vance volunteers post to get this filled. It will not be up to Vance volunteers to raise this money for non-Vance animals. If funds for non-Vance animals are not paid through paypal by the Wednesday after transport Vance will no longer transport from that shelter.

-Transport must be confirmed by the Thursday before transport by noon if transport is Friday and the Friday before transport by noon if Saturday transport. If it is known that transport will be needed before then please notify as soon as possible. (contact is rcaps2011@gmail.com)

-All non-Vance(RCAPS) animals must come with all paperwork needed including shot records and health certificate.

-Please be sure you know where your animals are coming from. Vance (RCAPS) animals and Vance (RCAPS) volunteers are not to be contacted about incorrect paperwork or things needed for non-Vance (RCAPS) animals. Please be sure you have the correct contacts for the animals you are pulling.

    - Vance (RCAPS) animals will take president and if a non-Vance animal does not fit the shelter bringing the animal must find alternate transport or holding arrangements.

    - Vance (RCAPS) is not a transport service and is only offering transport to other shelters in need if there is room on their transport for Vance animals. RCAPS is a small group that attempts to save the lives of the Vance shelter animals by connecting them to rescues and offering transport from NC-NJ as an incentive for the rescue to take Vance animals.

Please be patient with us. Currently we have a very small volunteer base dedicated to the rescue placement process and they visit the shelter as often as possible. They sift through many emails every day. They will respond to your inquiry, but it may be a brief exchange and may not be immediate. Thank you for understanding!
