• 2020 Application for Curriculum Revitalization and Development Grants

    Applications due by 5pm, March 27, 2020.
  • This grant supports faculty designing a new semester-long course, or substantially re-designing an existing semester-long course, to address one or more of the following strategies in the Gustavus Acts Strategic Plan: 2.1.1, 2.1.3, 2.1.4. (Please note: these grants are not available for IEX courses (J-term) or for one-time special topics courses.)

Funds for these grants are limited; thus, grants are competitive. Priority will be given to applications submitted by tenured, tenure-track, and continuing instructor faculty because of the long-term benefit their initiatives afford the Gustavus curriculum.

Funding priority will be assigned for proposals that meet the following criteria:

    ■ Articulate the educational value of the new/redesigned course as a means of targeting one or more of the Gustavus Acts strategies identified above.

    ■ Outline a clear plan for (re)developing the target course. Explain what will be done, when it will be completed and the anticipated outcome of each action.

    ■ Address the curricular impact the target course will have in terms of frequency offered and/or enrollment.

    ■ Include an assessment plan for determining impact of the course on student learning.

    ■ Identify appropriate materials and activities necessary to develop the course.

    ■ Include a letter from the relevant department/program chair confirming the department’s commitment to offering the course (when and how frequently it will be offered) and endorsing the proposed course change.

    ■ In the event of insufficient resources, those faculty with other sources of funding (i.e. endowed chair funds) will be prioritized below those without access to such funds.

Funding decisions will be made by a group composed of the Kendall Center director, a member of the Faculty Development Committee, and a Kendall Center Faculty Associate.

In accepting funds, awardees agree to share their course syllabus with the campus community via the Kendall Center and additional faculty development venues as appropriate.

Please contact the Kendall Center Director with questions about the application process or if you would like to consult regarding an idea for a grant.
