The City of West Hollywood is providing grants to City residents interested in being a steward for a Little Free Library, as part of a program to bring books and literature directly into city neighborhoods. Up to 2 grants in the amount of $600 each may be provided each fiscal year of the project.
Little Free Library (LFL) is a community project aimed at promoting literacy and the love of reading by the building of book exchanges worldwide. The City of West Hollywood has set aside funding for residents who wish to install, register, and maintain a Little Free Library on private property.
Stewards are private individuals who enjoy sharing books and literature with neighbors and enjoy the sense of community that the world of literature fosters. Stewards must be committed to taking care of their Little Free Library for a minimum of 1 year and commit to registering it at http://littlefreelibrary.org/registeryourlibrary/. Only one grant may be received per property parcel. This contract will need to be signed to receive the grant funds.
The responsibilites of a Steward include:
If you are not the property owner, obtaining property owner’s permission to install the Little Free Library on the property site.
Purchasing or building a Little Free Library. (
Maintaining the Little Free Library for a minimum period of 1 year.

Keeping the Little Free Library stocked. (The Friends of the West Hollywood Library have generously offered to supply books to stewards.)

To apply for funding, please fill out this application and upload a signed letter from the property owner (template attached). Before applying, please verify that the property you are applying on behalf of is located in the City of West Hollywood by visiting www.weho.org/streets.
