  • Please read about the breed to make sure if a Malamute suits your lifestyle.  Here are very honest descriptions of Alaskan Malamutes:

  • What are your expectations?

There are no wrong answers. We want to do our best to meet your expectations.

  •  Malamute Preference

  • * Adoption & Foster Acknowledgement *

    (1) I understand that CHAAMP Malamutes can never be allowed off-leash unless they are in a height-appropriate secured fenced-in area.

    (2) I understand Malamutes may develop same-gender dog aggression around the age of 2, especially when sharing a home.

    (3) I understand Malamutes blow their coat (shed excessively) twice a year and shed somewhat year-round.

    (4) I understand that invisible fencing is NOT an option for CHAAMP Malamutes. It does not protect Malamutes and may traumatize some.

    (5) I agree to keep my Malamute on heartworm & flea/tick preventative year-round, stay up-to-date on vaccines, and visit a vet annually for a check-up. If I need help, I will reach out to CHAAMP.

    (6) I understand that adoption is a lifetime commitment (10-14 years). However, if I cannot keep my Malamute, I will contact CHAAMP.

    (7) I will not use dominance, intimidation (verbal or physical), “corrections” or Alpha Rolls to control my furry companion. I will contact CHAAMP for assistance with behavior issues.

    (8) I will use a Y-shaped harness with a front clip connection for safety instead of using shock, prong, or choke collars. Martingale collars are acceptable for dogs that do not pull. If your dog pulls a Y-shaped harness is best.

    (9) I commit to using positive reinforcement rewards-based dog training and communication with my adopted Malamute.

    (10) I understand Malamutes are strong pullers and I agree to use humane equipment such as a Y-shaped harness to avoid pressure on the throat, which may cause thyroid issues.

    (11) I understand Malamutes naturally exhibit high predatory behavior towards critters such as cats, rabbits, squirrels, and small dogs, etc. and I will avoid or redirect my Mal with a high-value treat.

  •  FOSTER CARE

  • (1) As a foster parent, I have the first opportunity to adopt my foster.

    (2) If I choose to adopt, I will deliver the adoption fee and contract to CHAAMP within 24 hours of making the verbal commitment.

    (3) I understand that CHAAMP will only provide vet care if I (1) contact CHAAMP for pre-approval and (2) use one of our participating vets with a rescue discount. If I use a vet WITHOUT CHAAMP's approval, I agree to incur the expense.

    (4) I understand that CHAAMP is not responsible for damage to my home caused by a foster dog. CHAAMP recommends the use of a crate or a secure kennel/enclosure when your Malamute is not supervised.

  • BY SENDING THIS APPLICATION, I declare that the above is true to the best of my knowledge and ability. • About CHAAMP

  • CHAAMP is a rescue organization member of the Pet Professional Guild. CHAAMP Malamutes use martingale collars and (Alpine Outfitters) Y-shaped harnesses. A Malamute that pulls can break a martingale collar.

Rescues have already been let down by humans, we wish to nurture a kind and peaceful transition into their new home & life with you. We are happy to talk with you and answer questions.

We do our best to practice force-free and rewards-based methods to train and care for our Malamutes. We find these methods help all dogs build healthy communication and relationships with humans. We are committed to learning and welcome you to join us on this journey.

We follow the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) position statements on Humane Dog Training, Positive Vet Visit, and Dominance
