IDEAL Peer Mentor
A peer mentor acts as academic support for IDEAL students, providing 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 in-class support for academic classes at Georgia State. This support entails attending classes with the students, helping students get acclimated to class structure and expectations, building helpful study skills, and providing out-of-class study sessions as needed. (4-10 hours/week)
Social Support
Support students in progressing towards their social goals. This may be getting lunch with the students, attending a football game, joining a club, attending a pop-up campus event, and going to concerts, plays, or films. (3-5 hrs/week).
Job Coach
2nd-year IDEAL students get hands-on experiences by working on campus and off-campus at internships and job sites. A job coach will work with the student on the internship/ job site by assisting with training, providing scaffolds to succeed, and getting them comfortable with the transportation routes. The end goal is for the student to get acclimated to the role, and then the support can fade as needed. (4-10 hours/week)
Fitness Support
Work with students to develop healthy and active lifestyles. This may be developing workout plans, learning new running routes around campus, or assisting the student to set up an accountability system. (3 hrs/week)
