2017 Convention Workshop Application
for the 90th National FFA Convention & Expo
The convention and expo is Oct. 25-28, 2017.
The deadline to apply to present a convention workshop is July 1, 2017.
Teacher workshops - Up to 50 teachers per workshop session.
Student workshops - Up to 360 FFA members per workshop session.
High School Teacher - A current high school teacher.Teacher Educcator - A current teacher educator at a post-secondary institution.Collegiate Student - Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution. National FFA Staff - Currently is a full-time employee of the National FFA Organization.Company/Business - A person who is presenting as a representative of their company/business.
Univeristy Staff/Nonprofits - University staff - those who work for a university but are not a teacher educator. Nonprofit - A person who works for a business/company that is classified as a nonprofit organization.
Companies/Businesses will be invoiced $2,000.00 prior to convention per workshop session topic. Travel and lodging will not be provided by National FFA. Sponsoring a workshop does not guarantee presenting a workshop. Being selected to present a workshop does not guarantee sponsorship of the workshop. High School Teacher - Travel and lodging will not be provided by National FFA. If you are planning to come to convention with your own chapter, we ask that you register and pay as planned.
For those not coming to convention with a chapter, we will help register them into the system; however, cost is the responsibility of the attending party.
Teacher Educator - Travel and lodging will not be provided by National FFA. We will register you for convention, unless we hear otherwise from you.
University Staff/Nonprofits will be invoiced $1,000.00 prior to convention per workshop session topic. Travel and lodging will not be provided by National FFA.
Collegiate Student - Lodging and airfare will be provided. Basic workshop materials will be provided. (Materials will be outlined in an email if your application is accepted.)
We will take care of registering you for convention.
Collegiate student reposniblities/duties for student workshop:
Serve as a room host for 2-3 student workshops, present 2-3 student workshops, # number of hours.
National FFA Staff - Proceed to the next page.
Collegiate Student - Lodging and airfare will not be provided.
We will take care of registering you for convention, unless we hear otherwise from you.
Based on survey results from last year's convention, teachers would like to see teacher workshop topics on classroom resources, hydroponics, agricultural mechanics, judging workshops, STEM, small animal care, animal science, food science, food security, new teacher survival tips/tricks, classroom lab activities, etc. These are just suggested topics to help you develop your workshop topic.
Based on survey results from last year's convention, students would like student workshop topics on leadership styles, teamwork, careers (animal science, agricultural business and engineering for specific careers), building an FFA chapter, parliamentary procedure, social media, advocacy, public speaking and bringing our FFA communities together. Students like interactive activities in the workshops.
The information provided here will be used in workshop promotional materials such as online convention schedules, the convention and expo guidebook and the convention and expo app. Please note: 52 percent of students and teachers say they attend because of interesting titles and descriptions of the workshops.
Type name and title as you would like it to appear in the convention guidebook, convention app, etc.
Workshops are 60 minutes. They are offered from 2 - 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 and Friday, Oct. 27.
I understand that the following AV/technology equipment will be provided for my workshop:
- LCD projector/screen
- LCD projector cabling (VGA and AC adapter cords)
-Sound system hook-up
-White printer paper
-Tear sheets/flip charts
