I want to give back to a great university that gave me a great education. I have now been in the world long enough, with enough experience to be able to offer help, assistance, and insight.
I was an out of state student. I've lived outside Michigan my entire working career. I have been to 25 countries, being outside the US over 50 times. I believe I have a unique experience and viewpoint to provide what EMU needs in the short and long term. I've worked in higher education, government, and business (mainly manufacturing, financial and healthcare). I know the trends and compelling issues. Research and experience tells us that higher education and business often do to not see "eye-to-eye" as to what makes a student ready for the workplace. Having spent time in both, I know I can help bridge that gap.
I understand the work, the challenges, the issues and the joy. I am an organizational psychologist who understands, people, groups and organizations. I am passionate about education and the mission of EMU.
Challenges that EMU will face over the next 5 years include:
1. Broadening its appeal beyond Ypsilanti & Michigan
2. Media marketing to a new generation of students
3. Programs that stimulates the interest of incoming & continuing students
4. Being good citizens (giving back to our communities)
Programming that the EMU Alumni Association should offer to current and future alumni should include:
3. Connecting back to EMU
4. Continuing Education
