    Foster Home Application

    (last revised Feb 2017)
  • Our goal is to create a community where healthy animals are not killed in the shelter, and animals are kept safe, healthy and loved in their homes! We need your help and would love if you joined our foster group! Please answer the following questions as completely as possible – so that we can match you with the best foster pet for your situation. Thank you for volunteering to save the life of a wonderful pet.

  • Please read through our expectations carefully before submitting the application.

    * Your personal dogs must be up-to-date on all vaccinations and current on heartworm preventatives and indoor only!  Personal cats must be up-to-date on rabies vaccination and spayed/neutered!

    * Your personal dogs must be spayed/neutered!

    * A fence is not required, but highly desirable! Dog cannot be left unattended outside and not allowed to roam outdoors!

    * You agree to attend at least one event per month and coordinate pickup of food/supplies and meds as needed. Spirit Canine Rescue will provide food, medications, crate, and other supplies/toys/treats as they become available

    * You are able and willing to administer medications as needed and ensure foster dogs receive their heartworm preventatives and flea/tick meds every month

    * We expect regular pictures and update of foster dogs sent in the Volunteers Facebook page (or sent in another way if not on Facebook)

    * We can provide assistance with training but we expect that you work with your foster dog to establish good public manners, crate-training and decent leash training

    * As much as possible, we ask that you are able to transport your dog to events and vet appointments. If this conflicts with your personal schedule, we will attempt to get volunteers to assist

    * As part of our process, we will be contacting your references, vet (as applicable). We will also require a home visit prior to matching you with a foster dog

  • Personal Information

  • We strongly prefer that you commit to foster a dog until adoption (usually a few months, but may be longer, especially if a dog is undergoing medical treatment). Applications with a commitment to foster through adoption will receive preference.

Note: all foster pets will be current on vaccinations and free of internal and external parasites.

  • Some insurance companies may cancel your homeowner’s insurance if there is a pet on the premises. It is your responsibility to check with your agent to ensure that having a pet will not adversely affect your policy. For breeds which may be “blacklisted” with insurers (for example pit bull-type dogs, German shepherds, Rottweilers, chows) we may require your permission to check your insurance company general policies for breed restrictions.
