Summary: A Low Ropes Course is a challenging outdoor personal development and team building activity. By using cables, ropes, and wooden beams strung among trees or poles, teams of girls explore risk taking, leadership, physical challenges, and communication. Low ropes facilitators are trained adults who lead teams of girls through the low ropes courses available at each of the three camp properties. Facilitators help set ground rules, encourage communication, positive reinforcement and facilitate ground games before entering the low ropes course. A low ropes facilitator’s primary job is to make sure girls get a positive and safe experience from participating on the course.
Term of appointment: 1 year (3 year renewable)
Time Commitment: Facilitators are required to facilitate three (3) Low Ropes Challenge programs (2.5 hrs each) at any of GSNEO’s three courses for girls each year, at least one of which must be council-sponsored, to renew certification beyond one year.
Required Traning: Volunteers are required to complete the following Basic Leadership Training: Girl Scouting 101, Welcome to Girl Scouts, and Program Volunteer Training.
First Aid/CPR/AED Certification and Low Ropes program training specific to the curriculum is required. This training is 5 - 6 hours.
Supervision: This position reports to and is supported by the Program Coordinator of Camp and Events Pathways.
