The Louisville chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists is pleased to announce a $1,000 college scholarship to be awarded this fall to an outstanding college undergraduate student who is majoring in communication/journalism and/or working for student media at one of the college in our service region. These colleges include the following:
Bellarmine University, Campbellsville University, Elizabethtown Community and Technical College, Hanover College, Indiana University Southeast, Jefferson Community and Technical College, Kentucky State University, Spalding University, Sullivan University, or the University of Louisville.
The scholarship is named in honor of Lewis M. Conn, a pioneering Louisville newspaper publisher and longtime member of the Louisville chapter.
Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must submit the following by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017:
- Application letter (500-word max) explaining why they should receive the scholarship
- A resume
- At least three samples of your best journalism work, or a link to an online portfolio
- Letter of recommendation from a college professor (preferably a journalism professor or student media adviser)
- A copy of your college transcript.
The scholarship winner will be notified in late November. A check will be issued then to the student so he/she can use the funds for expenses for the spring 2018 semester. The student and two guests will also be invited to the chapter’s annual Metro Awards Dinner in June 2018.
All material outlined above should be submitted below by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
