  • SPEAK Application

SPEAK stands for SafePlace Peer Education, Action, and Knowledge. It is a group of teens from Thurston County high schools interested in coming together to talk about issues that are important to them. Some examples of the topics we will discuss include: relationships, consent, boundaries, sexual assault, anti-oppression, media literacy, and body positivity.
  • What does SPEAK do?

A lot of different things! We meet once a week from Fall to Spring to learn how to become peer educators. This means learning how to best educate and support our friends, family, and classmates on issues relating to domestic violence (DV) and sexual assault (SA). Every week we will have a workshop related to a different facet of the root causes of DV or SA. We also spend time in our meetings building community with each other (this is a great place to make friends!) Another part of SPEAK is doing "Healthy Relationship, Boundaries, & Consent" presentations in local high and middle schools. During these presentations you will always be supported and accompanied by a Youth Education Specialist. You will also collaborate about the content of these presentations, what information you think your friends should know about, and what issues you feel are affecting youth. SPEAK CAN BE USED TO FULFILL VOLUNTEER HOUR REQUIREMENTS IN MOST SCHOOLS!
