Placenta encapsulation is the practice of ingesting the placenta after it has been steamed, dehydrated, ground, and placed into gelatin or vegetable capsules. The purpose of Placentophagy is to reintroduce the beneficial vitamins, minerals, hormones, proteins, and other nutrients to the Birthing Woman’s body following birth. Placentophagy helps restore a more balanced body function, prevent “baby blues” and the more serious postpartum depression, increases breast-milk production, shortens healing time, increases maternal energy levels, and provides an over-all feeling of wellness.
I, Jaymee Payan (or a designated colleague), will pick up the placenta at the agreed upon time and place determined once placenta is delivered via text message. The placenta will be prepared at my home, on clean/sanitized surfaces, with sterile material and no chance of cross contamination is guaranteed. Placentas are prepared one at a time, and it is guaranteed client will be getting their own placenta pills, no one else’s!
Borrowing of a mini cooler is available if local to Ventura or Oxnard. If client would like to borrow, it is their responsibility to pick up from my home between 38-40 weeks of pregnancy.
Hospital Delivery:
It is the Client’s responsibility to discuss release of placenta with Labor and Delivery Team, and to sign release form. It is client’s responsibility to ensure proper storage of her placenta on ice until pick up. The container/bag should be placed on ice (ask your nurse for ice) and kept in room until it is picked up. If an emergency prevents pick up within 6 hours after delivery the Encapsulator reserves the right to make plans for outside of hospital pick up. If the hospital would like the “biohazard” organ out of the hospital ASAP, cooler will be put in client’s car, on ice in the cooler until it can be picked up. Placentas can stay on ice for up to 8 hours, and will be refrigerated immediately after pick up.
Home or Birth Center Delivery:
Ask your Midwife to bag up placenta and refrigerate until you are ready for me to pick up.
If delivery is between 10pm and 6am, the placenta will be picked-up after 6am. Please send a text immediately after delivery and we will coordinate a time for pick up after 6am. Pick up hours are between 6am and 10pm only.
If the following are in place or happen during pregnancy/labor the placenta is not suitable for encapsulation: Infection during labor, you are found positive for group strep B,fever that requires antibiotics (being GBS positive does NOT automatically mean you have an infection), if the placenta was taken to pathology, if it was not iced/refrigerated properly after the birth, or if you have HIV, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Hep B or C. It is client’s responsibility to inform me if positive for diseases.
Encapsulation Service includes:
Loaning of cooler (only if client does not have a cooler than can be used) / Pick-up of placenta after delivery / Placenta preparation
and encapsulation (steaming, dehydrating and encapsulating) / Proper storage container of the completed placenta pills / Written instructions for proper storage and suggested dosage / Delivery of placenta pills to client’s home no later than 72 hours after placenta is picked up and drying of umbilical “keep-sake” if cord is long enough and allows.
