Rescue Dog Adoption Application
  • Adoption Application

  • Important Information - PLEASE READ - Prior to filling out application

Thank you for your interest in rescuing a Sheltered Paws dog! Our goal is to adopt our dogs into permanent, loving and responsible homes. Please complete this form as completely and honestly as possible. The information you supply enables us to place the right dog into the right "forever" home.

Application Review Process: Our goal is to find the best possible home in a timely manner. Please understand that several people may be interested in the same dog that you are and working through the process at the same time. Completing the application does NOT GUARANTEE that you will be approved for adoption or that the dog is yours. We are all volunteers who have donated many hours of our free time, our own money and lots of love into each and every dog. We make every effort to be as timely and as fair in the process as we can. Please be patient. If you have any questions along the way, please don't hesitate to e-mail us at: spdrapp@shelteredpaws.com.

Once received, your application will be reviewed and you will receive notification if chosen to proceed to the next step in the process (this may come from us or directly from the foster parent). You and the foster family will set up a time for a "meet and greet" with the foster dog. If you have any pets of your own, they should meet the foster dog, too. Those meetings are best done in neutral territory, so there are less opportunities for territorial/possession issues to arise. After a successful "meet and greet" with everyone involeved (including children and other pets), the foster family will advise you to go to either of SPCA Cincinnati locations to formally complete the adoption process. The foster parent has the final say as to whether an applicant is approved or not, based on their direct knowledge of the dog, his/her needs, behavior and personality.

Working with the Foster Family: Each foster family knows the personality and characteristics of their foster dog and have likely become quite attached in the process. With this knowledge, the foster family will make the best determination possible in selecting the family that should adopt their foster dog. Please do not take it personally if it is not you - if you are not the selected adopter, this is not an indication that we think you would not be a good pet owner - it means that that particular dog would be best suited in a different environment based on the behavior he/she has demonstrated in their foster home. We do our best to "speak for those who cannot speak for themselves". We try our best to do what is right for them. Thank you and good luck in your search for your new family member.
