Thank you for your interest in residencies at Green Olive Arts, Tetouan, Morocco. Accompanying this letter is the application form you requested. We accept applications year round. Following receipt of a completed application, with a non-refundable $20 application fee and any related documents, the review process takes approximately 2 weeks.
Note: This is NOT the application for the UPROOTED Convergence 2019 residency, which has a separate application from our regular self-directed residencies.
Residencies may last from 2 to 6 weeks, with each artist determining the length of time appropriate to the work he or she wants to accomplish. While at Green Olive Arts, artists typically choose from a number of different types of housing options within walking distance of the studio. Most of these offer bed and breakfast or have an attached restaurant, but the studio facility itself has a kitchen so that residents may prepare their own food if necessary at the studios. Artists who have specific facilities’ needs should contact Green Olive Arts to determine if our studios will accommodate their work.
The residency fee is tiered based on the length of your stay and whether or not you desire a completely private space. Because we hold a high value of community and collaboration, the majority of our spaces are set up as shared spaces, where 2-3 artists are at work. This will likely be an international mix as well, encouraging creative influence across cultures. The pricing in Moroccan Dirhams (MAD) is as follows:
2017-18 Shared Studio Private Studio
1 -2 weeks 2500 MAD/wk (~ $252 USD) 3700 MAD/wk (~ $379 USD)
3-4 weeks 2400 MAD/wk (~ $242 USD) 3646 MAD/wk (~ $368 USD)
5-8 weeks 2250 MAD/wk (~ $227 USD) 3375 MAD/wk (~ $341 USD)
9+ weeks 2125 MAD/wk (~ $215 USD) 3188 MAD/wk (~ $322 USD)
The residency fee does not include particular supplies, travel or housing.
We have negotiated special rates with a number of housing vendors here in town (see our housing options web-page) and can make those arrangements for our guests for an additional small fee. Housing costs may vary depending on the time of year (summer is peak tourist season). Accepted artists in residence will receive a budget sketch upon request as well as any official documentation needed to seek funding from grant organizations.
Please be aware that once you have been accepted, a 2000 MAD deposit is required (approx. $200 USD), to secure your studio space, due no later than 30 days after acceptance. If the date of acceptance is less than 2 months from the beginning of the residency period, the 2000 MAD deposit will be required upon acceptance.
