At the request of several members of our church, with the approval and firm support of our Senior Pastor, and after a discussion at a Board of Trustees meeting, we are reaching out to our congregation to help us discern whether there is sufficient interest and possible financial support to construct a columbarium somewhere on the grounds of Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
What is a columbarium?
A columbarium is a permanent structure containing spaces (niches) which may be purchased by Broadmoor United Methodist Church family members for the placement of urns containing the ashes (cremains) of deceased loved ones. Frequently, the grounds on which the columbarium is located also includes spaces for inscribed bricks, pavers, or plaques in memory of deceased loved ones buried elsewhere.
Why choose a columbarium over traditional burial?
A columbarium provides a spiritually meaningful final resting place for church members for whom Broadmoor United Methodist Church was a special and significant part of their lives.
About how much would a niche cost?
The exact cost of a niche will be determined by the location, size, and style of columbarium that is designed; however, a niche and cremation would cost significantly less than a casket, burial site, and tombstone.
