  • Highly Recommended: Toolkit to Help you Plan

Educate78 has created an easy-to-use, step-by-step toolkit to help schools interpret their Gallup survey results and take action - click here to access the toolkit.

While using the toolkit is very helpful, it is not a prerequisite to apply for a teacher retention grant. Also, don't worry if your school didn't participate in the Gallup survey!

  • Grant Design Team and Roles

  • Lead Grant Team Member Information

The lead team member is responsible for the coordination of activities related to the proposal, and to be the key point of contact for Educate78.

  •  -
  • Other Grant Design Team Member Information:

Retention projects are more likely to succeed if they are designed by, and owned by a group (rather than an individual). Such a group can help identify your site's root cause, get others' buy-in, and make changes as needed. We call this your "Grant Design Team."

Please list any other members of your Grant Design Team. These are teachers participating in the grant project design and grant writing. Be sure to include:

    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Grade
    • Subject
    • Years at School
    • Total Years Teaching
  • Grant Proposal Summary

  • Please refer to the following information in the next two questions:

Tier I: up to $5,000 intended for small-scale or lower-cost pilots (e.g., across a grade level or department team, with a specific group of teachers like veteran teachers, to pilot a new retention strategy not tried before).

Tier II: up to $10,000 intended for deeper reach in terms of number of participating educators and/or intended impact on teacher satisfaction and retention. This strategy should be part of a schoolwide improvement strategy with school leader support.

Tier III: up to $20,000 intended for strategies with strong evidence bases and/or to scale up and refine a successful pilot. Tier III grants should impact a significant number of teachers at the site and be part of a schoolwide improvement strategy with school leader support.

  • Please describe at a high level (e.g., 2-4 sentences) who beyond the Grant Design Team has agreed to participate in the grant project (e.g., "10 teachers across all grade levels who are excited about...")

  • SECTION 1: SCHOOL CONTEXT AND STUDENT AND TEACHER DATA

  • School Context

  • Student Population

Please include the following school data:

  • Teacher Retention Data

Below, please include your school’s teacher retention data for the last 3 years. For OUSD schools, see this teacher retention dashboard for historical teacher retention data. If you're having trouble collecting these data, come to one of our office hours or contact us via email.

  • 2015-16

  • 2016-17

  • 2017-18

  • Other Data Relevant to Retention

  • SECTION 2: PROBLEM DEFINITION, PROPOSED STRATEGY, AND DESIRED OUTCOMES

  • Include any other data that has helped you develop a deeper understanding around teacher retention in your school.

For example: data from interviews with other teachers, teacher experience levels and number of early career teachers, retention of teachers in specific subjects/roles or demographic groups.

  • Problem Definition:

  • The Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement pyramid provides a framework to think about teacher engagement and retention strategies.

For more information, see these Gallup resources.

  • Desired Outcomes:

  • SECTION 3: IMPLEMENTATION AND LEARNING

  • Key Milestones and Timeline:

Setting meaningful milestones for your project helps focus your work, and provides a useful "gut check" for how your project is progressing.

Please list milestones that you hope to reach by December 2018, and ultimate outcomes that you hope to reach by the end of the 18-19 school year. December milestones can include either qualitative or quantitative measures, while end-of-year outcomes should be quantitative. You may use monthly, etc. milestones in your own planning, but for this application we only request your mid-year and end-of-year milestones.

Should you be awarded a grant, we will include these milestones in your "grant agreement" (so, it's important to put thought into the milestones!).

  • Sharing Your Learning:

How you will share what you’ve learned with other stakeholders at your school or in other schools?

[Grant requirements include at least one blog post and participation in 1-2 reflection and sharing events in 2018-19]

  • Moving Forward:

Imagine your prototype and test is wildly successful in 2018-19, how could you see this pilot moving forward to make an impact beyond the life of the grant? What ideas do you have for how this work could be sustained over time or scaled to reach even more teachers and schools? (Suggested 100 words or less)

  • SECTION 5: APPENDIX

  • Please download, complete, and upload the School Leader Letter of Support Template. We are requesting this letter of support because we've learned that successful projects have the active support of their principal, and that the projects are aligned to school-wide prioritiees.

NOTE: If your school leader will not be leading your school next year and next year's school leader is not available, please submit a letter of support from an Assistant Principal or a district/CMO administrator.
