Measuring Human Resource Risk and Effectiveness
Instructions: This is intended as an informal assessment of your human resources functions. Please take a few minutes to get a feeling for the risk and effectiveness of your practice's human resource function. At the end we will ask you for some contact information so that we can send you the results.
1. Do you have an employee handbook describing your practice's policies and practices?

3. Have all managers and supervisors received training in legal/illegal interviewing and hiring practices within the past two years?

4. Do new employees receive a prepared orientation upon hire along with documentation about their job and performance expectations?

6. Do you have written company policy for each department that cover every major decision, rule or protocol in that department?

7. Do you have a general policy manual? (This is different than an employee handbook).

8. Have all managers receive sexual harassment prevention training in the past two years?

9. Do current job descriptions exist for all positions that comply with ADA requirements? Are they detailed?

10. Are personnel files set up to contain only new hire documentation, tax/pay information, orientation information and performance evaluations/documentation?

13. Is a formal compensation program in place, with jobs assigned to pay grades and defined practices for determining and administering pay increases?

14. Can existing incentive compensation or variable pay plans be objectively linked to practice and individual performance improvements?

15. Does a performance management system exist that objectively documents employee job performance and supports decisions about compensation and employment?

17. Do you have performance appraisal documentation history in every employees personnel file?

18. Are training programs in place to improve service skills of key customer contact employees?

19. Is management aware of the biggest employee concerns by using periodic employee opinion surveys?

20. Are training programs in place to meet safety requirements of OSHA? And confidentiality requirements of HIPAA?

21. Are all required postings put up at all locations (ADA, OSHA, EEO, state and federal minimum wage, unemployment insurance and FMLA)?

23. Do all positions not paid overtime (exempt) comply with one of the five exemptions allowed under the Fair Labor Standards Act (executive, administrative, outside sales, professional or computer work)?
