Link One

The LEAD Program promotes and recognizes the oustanding achievements of an individual's student leadership development throughout their collegiate career. A person who has completed the LEAD program is said to have earned their NACURH Links. This program is available to any person who is a residence hall student at a NACURH-affiliated school.

Remember that all pieces of Link One must be completed in order to be eligible for submission.

1. Identify a social issue, which affects your institution or surrounding community. Donate a minimum of two (2) service hours towards an organization that works to better that social issue. Write a reflection, maximum of 600 words, about how you see that social issue affecting your community and how the organization you volunteered with works towards tackling that social issue.*

2. Research what it means to be an active citizen and define it in your own words. Write a reflection, maximum of 600 words, regarding how you served or how you hope to serve as an active member of your community and how it impacts you as a leader.*

3. Take an assessment to learn about your leadership style; these assessments may include but are not limited to: Myers-Briggs, True Colors, or StrengthsFinder. Identify two ways you will utilize this assessment to enhance your leadership.*

4. Attend a seminar, workshop, speech, or lecture that centers around leadership. Summarize the message of the event you attended and write how this message will inform your philosophy as a student leader.*

5. Watch a documentary or read a non-fiction text on diversity or social justice. After engaging with this medium, talk with a peer, mentor, or advisor about what you learned and how this new information will impact you moving forward. Provide an outline of what was discussed during this conversation.*

6. Reflect on your social identities (such as race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion). Determine which identities you think about most often or find most important in your day-to-day experiences. Write, maximum of 600 words about how having a deeper understanding of your social identities will enable you to be more inclusive of others. You may consider the following prompts in your response: How do my identities affect the way I treat others? How will being more aware of my identities make me a more effective leader?*

7. Attend a program occurring within your residence hall. Write a reflection, maximum of 600 words, indicating what you gained from this experience and what impact this program had on your residence hall.*
