Please REVIEW the following volunteer opportunities:

    Small Group Leader

A Small Group Leader is a clubber’s main AWANA contact. Small Group Leaders are responsible to lead clubbers in discussion during Small Group Time and provide spiritual counseling. They listen to the memorized scripture, help ensure comprehension, and then sign off completed sections. The Small Group Leader is the manager of the permanent record book and accurately records all sections passed and awards earned. Leaders are also vital role models providing enthusiasm and discipline during the other club segments. Leaders have the greatest opportunity – and responsibility– to personally affect lives of children for eternity and disciple them. During game time, the Leader instructs and reminds clubbers of the rules and encourages them to participate with good sportsmanship. He/she also sits with the clubbers during large group teaching time to demonstrate how to participate respectfully and engage fully in the instruction and awards time.

Time Commitment: Wednesday evenings 6:30pm to 8:00pm for 28 weeks, approximately 3 hours per week plus extra events

    Training:

    • Attend AWANA Training Night leading up to season start

Season: Sept 14 – Dec 14 and Jan 11 – April 26  (we break for Dec. and for summer)

    Helper

A Helper is a Small Group Leader’s assistant during the small group handbook time. He or she works with an individual clubber, helping the clubber to memorize the verse. The Listener is also the person who has the greatest responsibility to make sure the clubber truly understands what the scripture is saying. A Helper can explain the passage, define words, sometimes already defined in the Handbook, make sure that all the requirements are met to pass that Handbook section, and generally make sure that the scripture is truly hidden in the clubber's heart. During Game time, the Helper encourages the clubbers in good sportsmanship and genuine fun. In Large group time, the Helper can remind clubbers to stay focused and respectful to the speaker and rejoice with all award-earners. T and T is adequately staffed each week.  Your direct report is the Awana commander or family ministry pastor.

An LIT is expected to come prepared to serve and learn how to lead children to Christ and disciple them. His/her ability to help clubbers memorize verses is invaluable and even to comprehend those verses (under the supervision of the leader) will allow the Leader to manage the entire group and records. LIT’s may serve in the Cubbies or Sparks Clubs.

    Awana Store Keeper

You are over all sales and inventory for our Awana Club.  Each week you are present at the counter to sell resources for Awana (such as vests, books, Bibles, bags) for the first half hour and last half hour of club. You track inventory and let Lisa know when orders need to be placed.

Once a quarter, you and who ever you may recruit – will plan and implement a store for kids where they can redeem their hard earned Awana bucks for prizes. They earn these bucks for finishing handbook work, saying verses, demonstrating leadership qualities, etc. It would be available to the kids during their handbook time so you would need to be present for the entire club time on those nights. Often the store is themed based on the season we are in such as Christmas or Valentines.  We have a small budget for this but seek donations for these prizes as well from local vendors – You would drive this effort.
