The Moxie Strings and Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic
A week for beginning to intermediate string players to explore the richness of the American music tradition and fearlessly dive into their creative potential! Campers will develop a deep understanding of the many exciting and diverse opportunities that exist in music and gain several fun skills such as improvisation adn arranging that are increasingly necessary for success in the current musical world. The electrifying Diana Ladio and Artistic Director of the Saline Fiddlers, Ashley Grebe, will lead the camp, as well as Saline Fiddlers' members as peer mentors. This camp is brimming with authenticity and pure American spirit!

She's Got Rhythm

As part of the 2019 Summer Jazz Institute, we are presenting a week long summer workshop for young women to play and learn alongside the best woman jazz players in the area! This unique opportunity will inspire, engage and empower young women as they gain an entirely new perspective on what is possible, both in themselves and in music. Participants will be in a safe, non-competitive space to study jazz, have the chance to connect to professional women in jazz for continued mentorship and be empowered with the tools and resources to pursue careers in jazz.
Coordinated daily camp activities will include group discussions, instrument specific sectionals, professional development workshops with guests around the topics “Careers in Music” and “Get your Gear”, rehearsals with all participants and an improve/ composition class.

The Afternoon Jam

Beginning to intermediate.
All instruments and vocalist welcome.
This workshop would deal with roles of the different instruments, interpreting melody, chords,improvisation and styles in a small jazz band.
We’ll listen to and learn the ins and outs of compositions by Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, Horace Silver, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and various jazz standards.
1:30-1:45: "what have you been listening to?" daily discussion
3:00-3:30: ear training/transcribing

The Jazz Messengers

For intermediate to advanced players.
All intruments welcome.
In this evening session jazzers will study of this iconic jazz album of the Jazz Messengers: Art Blakey, Horace Silver, Hank Mobley and Detroiters Donald Byrd and Doug Watkins.
