Serving Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and Surrounding Counties
Open to Public, Private, Charter and Home School Students

MET Singers is a Performing Arts Education and Youth Development Program

Arts Access Partners: The Visual and Performing Arts Department, Music Makes Us, of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools; Lipscomb University, Fisk University, the National Museum of African American Music, Intersection and The Nashville Symphony. This form must be on file for your child’s participation in any event sponsored by The MET Singers, a Choral Arts Link, Inc. program

MET Singers decorum expectations are in compliance with Metropolitan Nashville Public School standards of conduct. Guidelines set by Metropolitan Nashville Public School Board of Education for safety of students, teachers and staff apply during all rehearsals, retreats, and/or MET sponsored events.

    1. I am responsible for any and all transportation for my child to and from rehearsals, retreats and performances (unless otherwise prearranged) to all MET Singers events.

    2. I acknowledge that the teachers involved with MET Singers are providing their time and expertise to enhance participants' performance artistry, musical education and instruction. I, in turn, will make every effort to deliver and pick-up my child in a timely manner for all MET functions. If my pickup is delayed 15 minutes after session closure I will alert the Executive Director, 615-260-5278. If my pick up is delayed twice (2 times), my child will be removed from MET Singers.

    3. I will discuss with my child that it is an honor to participate in this choral program and that he/she represents his/her family, school, community and city. This is a responsibility that students and teachers will take very seriously. Decorum and cooperation from all participants (singers and adults) should be exemplary at all times.

  • Participant Decorum of Safety and Guidelines

  • One (1) Completed Form Per Participant

Safety guidelines as set by Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Board of Education apply during all MET functions for participants, teachers, staff, volunteers and special guest. Each staff member (Artistic Associates, Director Assistants) and volunteers are responsible for the safe keeping of each participant and will follow the guidelines set by Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Each participant is responsible for cooperating with teachers, staff, volunteers, guest artists and fellow participants for best experiences for everyone.

If at any time a participant is uncooperative and a resolution cannot be determined through conferencing with the staff/camp director and the student’s parents/guardians, said participant may be asked to withdraw from the remainder of any or all scheduled activities (effective immediately).

I have read and understand the student decorum expectations. I will abide by them for rehearsals, retreats, performances or events sponsored by this organization.

  • Performance Practice & Attendance Guidelines

  • Complete this form and return it. This form must be on file for your child’s participation in any event sponsored by MET Singers, a Choral Arts Link, Inc. program.

Creating Music is an art. The artist sometimes struggles to discover the best way to relay his/her message to the audience. MET Singers create Music Art. And sometimes they too struggle to learn and interpret a piece of music as the composer and conductor might wish.

And so MET Singers have rehearsal, every Monday evening from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Choral Arts Link also sponsors retreats for its singers, at least one each semester, including one earmarked for a special guest artist who works directly with singers and whose presence contributes to the rehearsal process.

For the MLK concert and the Legacy concert, special retreats are necessary. The two Saturdays before the MLK Concert in January and the mid-week dress rehearsal are must attends for ALL ensembles because it is the only time that we, as a group, can have access to the choir loft and stage in Schermerhorn Symphony to practice our selections.

The conclusion to be drawn is: REHEARSALS ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!

Attendance Policy includes the following: Commitment Counts!

    1. If the singer is going to miss rehearsal, and you know about this in advance, please inform Mrs. Campbelle-Holman or another member of the MET faculty of the absence as far in advance as possible. Contact any of the above artistic staff in person, or via e-mail or telephone (see contact information in Parent/Singer Handbook).
    1. If the singer is going to miss a Monday or Saturday rehearsal because of illness or other reason, please inform one of the teachers via telephone or e-mail as soon as possible.
    1. If a singer misses the rehearsal that immediately precedes the concert, HE OR SHE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PERFORM. Dress rehearsals are very important not just for the music, but to practice lining up, walking on and off stage, becoming familiar with the order of the pieces, and especially building stamina and familiarity with an event that for MET Singers is the culmination of many months of practice. Timely Arrival Counts!
    1. **Being on time to all rehearsals, retreats and events is expected. If a student will be tardy to rehearsal (15 minutes or more, please contact Mrs. Campbelle-Holman or anywith valid reason **If a student in MET Singers has three or more consecutive tardy days preceding a concert or other major event, he or she may not be able to perform.
    1. Mentoring is an important role and responsibility for seasoned singers. Once a singer has performed in one program, they are a seasoned singer. All age groups of singers are mentors in MET Singers. A peer mentor, as well as a music faculty, in decorum for rehearsals and performances, assist newer singers. Seasoned singers are expected to provide this additional support to encourage each member’s transition to MET Singers tradition of high standards in mastering rehearsal skills and performance artistry.

MET Singers is about commitment to the choral music, but it is more than that.

It is an affirmation made by each singer to learn the music, some of which may be in an unfamiliar style and a challenge for young performers to grasp.

It is an affirmation to support fellow singers in this process through mentoring and physical presence allowing for questions and concerns to be voiced.

It is an affirmation to learn the discipline and the decorum necessary to carry on the Legacy of MET Singers that has been established for the last sixteen years.

ARE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILLING TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE?

We hope you and your family will say YES and join us on Monday nights and Saturday retreats.

I have read and I understand the decorum guidelines. I will abide by them for rehearsals, retreats, performances or events sponsored by this organization.
