• Honors Fellows Contract Proposal Form

  • The contract is a defining feature of the HFP, broadening the Fellow’s education beyond the confines of the regular classroom. The nature of the project will vary by discipline, by course, and by professor. It might involve more depth of research or an element of experiential learning or translating the findings of the course to an off-campus audience. Above all, the contract invites Fellows and professors alike to exercise creativity in investigating the discipline’s core questions and concerns.

Your Honors Contract Proposal identifies an independent project that you will pursue under faculty mentorship during a 300- or 400-level course in your major. It should involve 15-30 hours of work beyond the syllabus’s expectations. Fellows and faculty mentors are strongly encouraged to place the deadline for this project two weeks before the end of the semester. You must complete two (2) such contracts in order to graduate as an Honors Fellow. Contracts may not be performed in the Fellow’s first academic year; Fellows who begin the program after the first year, whether by transfer or by late entry, may not perform a contract in their first semester in the program. A Fellow may not perform two contracts in the same semester without petitioning the HFP director.

Complete this contract proposal form in consultation with your faculty mentor and the HFP director. Contract proposals must be submitted by the end of the fourth week of instruction for your project’s term.

Additionally, your faculty mentor must submit a brief email to the HFP director stating, "I have discussed this project with the Fellow, and I support the project's goals and contributions and the timeline by which it will be completed"--or something brief and to similar effect. This brief statement is also due by the end of the second week of instruction for your project’s term.

See the Honors Fellows Handbook for further rules and guidelines governing these projects.
