  • Application Deadlines

    Fall internships (September-December), due September 15
    Spring internships (January-April), due January 15
    Summer internships (May-August), due April 15
     

    Eligibility Requirements

    Students must be a Carnegie Mellon undergraduate pursuing a major or minor in a writing discipline (e.g., creative writing, English, professional or technical writing, gender studies, film and media studies, humanities analytics). Students doing internship for credit are eligible for consideration.
     

    Application Materials

    • a confirmed internship (including name of organization, name of supervisor with contact information, a description of duties, hours/week, length of internship, etc.)
    • a personal essay of 1-2 pages max (single-spaced) explaining how this internship will enhance the student’s academic and professional development goals   
    • a current resume (PDF only)

    Students are strongly encouraged to pursue all relevant campus resources and funding opportunities to help find and fund their internship. We encourage students to make an appointment with Beth Jameson (bjameson@andrew.cmu.edu), our Career Counselor specialist for English in the Career and Professional Development Center, to learn more about CPDC resources and internships in English. We also encourage students to keep alert for information and deadlines on other Dietrich College internship awards.

    All applications will be reviewed and students informed within one week of posted submission dates. The review committee will consist of no fewer than three representatives from English. Award recipients will be notified by email of their selection, along with information about how the award will be distributed.

    Award Recipients

    All award recipients are expected to provide information about their internship to our Marketing and Communications Specialist for coverage in relevant English Department media outlets, and to write a post-internship letter to the award donor summarizing how the internship contributed to your academic or professional pursuits.
