There are 5 components to the Artist and Writer in Residence program:
Visit 1 - Introduction to Creative Thinking Skills
Interactive presentation with practice exercises covering: Flexibility of Thought, Embracing Fear & Mistakes, Curiosity, Imagination & Association, Originality of Thought, Varying Your Perspective- Examining Multiple Viewpoints
Visits 2, 3, 4 - Teacher's Choice of Project, Lesson or Topic
The classroom teacher decides what unit/lesson/project would benefit from having the Artist or Writer collaboration.
Want to expand on a topic but don’t have time? Let our Artist/Writer do the research and present you with options from which to choose.
Have a lesson you already love but would like an extra set of knowledgeable hands to carry it out?
You determine the level of collaboration. We will provide the supplies and materials, free of charge, and they are yours to keep.
Visit 5 - Teacher's choice of the following two options:
Field Visit: a half-day trip to the Art Academy (buses paid for by AAC) for studio-based follow-up activity in art or creative writing.
Additional Classroom Visit from Artist/Writer – this can be a continuation of the project from visits 2, 3, and 4 OR a different topic or experience that you wish to explore with your students.
