• Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship Application Form

  • The Cox Scholarship, sponsored by the ASA Committee on Women in Statistics and Caucus for Women in Statistics, was established in 1989 to encourage more women to enter statistically oriented professions.

    Two scholarship recipients are selected each year: one to a woman in or entering the early stages of graduate training (MS or PhD) and one to a woman in a more advanced stage of training.

  • The ASA is tracking how effective it is in attracting gender diversity in its awards. 

    The following information will be kept private and secure and will not be used for a discriminatory purpose.

    It will be used by the Committee on Women in Statistics to make recommendations to the ASA Board of Directors. No information identifying specific individuals will be given to this committee.

  • Materials should appear in the following order as a single .pdf file:

    • Candidate's CV
    • Personal essay (minimum length one page, double-spaced)  
    • All academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)

    Note: personal essay should address the following:

    • Explain why you are enrolled in your present academic program
    • How you intend to use your technical training
    • Provide examples of acts of leadership, community service, and/or mentoring you have performed

    Three reference letters - not to exceed two pages each and saved as a .pdf file - are to be uploaded by the writer using this link.  Instruct the reference writers to include the candidate's last name in the file name.

  • Should the candidate be selected as a recipient, a headshot is required for JSM marketing and publication purposes.
