  • Membership Rules

Each Pup Scout must be an active member of Alabama Mineral and Lapidary Society. Children may not be left unattended at any time while at a meeting, field trip, or any other Pup Scout activity without prior consent from The Pup Scout Leader (PSL) responsible for that event. Children ages 4 - 18 are welcome to join the Pup Scouts! Your membership fees for AMLS covers your Pup Scout Registration Fee. Through the Future Rockhounds of America program our Pup Scouts will earn a total of 20 merit badges at no cost! Other scout programs offer extra merit badges that we may award as "Bonus Badges" occasionally, these badges are not free and will have to be purchased. The PSL may ask you to purchase these to reward your children. Pup Scout Uniform for merit badge display is a red vest that may be purchased, talk to the PSL for more details. Gray or khaki cargo pants or shorts appropriate for rock hunting/digging, proper footwear depending on the Scout activity. It is not required however our Pups will feel more like a Troup if they are in "uniform" especially at public events. All rules and regulations from Alabama Mineral and Lapidary Society, The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies and The Future Rockhounds of America also apply to AMLS Pup Scouts. Ask any AMLS Board member where to find these list.
