• Lee Boozer "Do Right" Scholarship

  • The "Do Right" Scholarship was established in 2012 by the RHS PTO in honor of Mr. Lee Boozer, the first principal of Ridgeland High School. Throughout his years of leadership, Mr. Boozer consistently expected students to "Do Right" in all aspects of their lives. This scholarship is awarded annually to two graduating seniors who have exemplified "Do Right" character during their years at RHS.  

    Mr. Boozer helps to select these recipients and presents these awards himself each year at Ridgeland High School's Senior Class Day. 

  • Evaluation Criteria

    + Scholarships are for RHS graduating Seniors only.

    + Student exhibits high moral character.

    + Student exhibits leadership qualities.

    + Student has civic and/or community service, and/ or work experience. (clubs, mentor programs, church involvement, holds a job)

    + Student has exemplary attendance and discipline records. (Discipline records will be reviewed by administration only)

    + Student is well mannered and respectful of adults and peers.

    + Student exhibits qualities of citizenship.

    + Student has a GPA of at least 2.5.

    + Consideration will be given to students with enrollment longevity.

     

    Submission Checklist

    The following components of the application should be prepared and ready to submit at the time you begin the application. Once an application has been started, it must be completed. You can NOT save your progress and finish the submission at a later time. The application should be completed no later than Friday, April 5, 2019.

     

    *Completed Application

    You will Start your electronic application by answering Yes to the prompt below. Reminder: Don't start until you have all the necessary documents ready to submit first.  Please answer all the questions in the application even if they don't apply to you- e.g. if you are not involved with a church in your community, then simply state that.  All sections need to have an answer typed in it, or there will be a missing component to your submission.  You may type in "please refer to my resume" if you feel that the details you have provided on your resume answer that section thoroughly enough, but feel free to type in any additional information that is good for the judges to know.  

     

    *Two Recommendation Letters

    You need to secure 2 letters of recommendation to be completed by teachers, employers, mentors, pastors, etc. At the end of the electronic application, you will be required to provide an email address for each person who has agreed to complete a recommendation letter for you. Information will be emailed to these individuals at the email addresses you provide. Please ensure that you are entering accurate email adresses, and be sure to let these individuals know to expect an email that will give them instructions on how to proceed with their recommendations. 

     

    *Student Resume

    At the end of the electronic application, please upload your resume as a .docx (Word document) or .pdf (PDF file).  

     

    *Essay Component- at least one full page please:

    At the end of the electronic application, please upload your essay as a .docx (Word document) or .pdf (PDF file). Choose one of the following topics for your essay:

     

    1. Share an experience in which you had to make a difficult "Do Right" choice.

    2. Write about a person who has influenced you to be a "Do Right" individual.

    3. Discuss an obstacle you had to overcome in order to "Do Right" in a particular situation. 

    NOTE: This is a crucial component to your application.  It is very important to give sincere thought and consideration to the topic you choose.  Your essay will be heavily weighted in the judges considerations and needs to be a quality essay both in content and form.  You are Seniors, so write a Senior- level essay please.

    Remember to type something in every section or it will be a missing component. Be thorough! It's better to include more than less. If your resume includes all the details that you wish to provide for that question, then you may type in "refer to my resume please", or you may want to add additional information in these spaces. The more the judges know about you and what you're involved in, the better!

  • Two Recommendation Letters (provide the two contacts here)

    Please provide a name and valid e-mail address for two (2) individuals for whom you would like to complete a recommendation letter for you.  They will be sent specific instructions to follow regarding how to submit the required information for the judges.  You need to ensure they are expecting this notification at the email that you provided.  It is ultimately your responsibility to follow through and make certain we receive back 2 recommendations in a timely manner, and to let the counselors' office know if there are any complications that arise.
