  • What is EOPS?

    Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a state-funded, academic, counseling, support program. It is designed to encourage educational success and promote student retention, persistence, and success.

    What is CARE?

    Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education (CARE) is a state-funded program for eligible EOPS single-head-of-household, parenting students with dependents that are receiving cash-aid (TANF/CalWORKS).

    Please read, complete, and submit your application. Please check your LASC email frequently after you submit the application. However, we ask that you allow at least 2 weeks for processing time.

    Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis until capacity is reached. Lastly, please ensure all statements and representations are true and correct.

  • EOPS PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

    There is a financial and academic component to establish eligibility for EOPS.

    Financial Eligibility is met by determining that the student is:

    1. A California resident or AB540 student.
    2. Eligible to receive the Promise Grant (BOGG Waiver A, B, or C) as   determined by FAFSA or the Dream Act Application.

    Academic Eligibility is met by determining that the student is/has:

    1. Full-time (12 units or more) upon acceptance into EOPS
      • Or 9 units or more for those elgibile for NextUp and CARE.
      • Or if DSPS (Disabled Student Programs & Services) exempt.
      • DSPS students must bring in verification letter from DSPS.
    2. Not completed more than 70 degree applicable units (at any college/university)
    3. An educational need in ONE of the following areas:
      -Non high school graduate
      -Have not passed the California Proficiency Exam nor earned a GED
      -Previous enrollment in remedial courses
      -High school graduate with GPA below 2.5
      -Other factors as determined by the EOPS Director or Designee, including: Current/Former Foster Youth, First Generation College Student, English is not student's first language.

    One or more of these questions "may" qualify for academic eligibility.
  • *If you earned a GPA of 2.5 or below, you MUST provide your High School unofficial transcripts within 30 days of submitting this application.

    *You may upload here, or bring directly in the EOPS office located in the Student Services Building, Room 218, 2nd Floor.  

  • *If yes, you must upload your transcripts below, or bring them to the EOPS/CARE office located in the Student Services Building, Room 218, 2nd Floor, within 30 days of submission of your application.

  • V. CARE Referrals:

    CARE (California Agencies Resources & Education) is a program for parenting students receiving TANF/CalWORKs pursuing their degree, transfer, or credentials. 
  • If you are eligible for CARE, you will need to provide the following:

    1. Student's Notice of Action (verifying Cash Aid)
    2. Student's CA ID or Driver's License
    3. Child(ren's)/Grandchild(ren)/Guardian(s) Birth Certificate(s)
    4. Student's signed Social Security card
    5. Student's EBT Card

    CARE student's receive many EOPS benefits, plus CARE Grant (Financial Assistance), Food, Gas, and Target cards *based on availability and student eligibility.

     

  • VI. NextUp (CAFYES) Referrals:

    NextUP/CAFYES (California Agencies Foster Youth Education Support) is a program for student's who are current or former Foster Youth on or after 16 years of age.
  • If you are eligible for NextUp (CAFYES), you will need to provide the following:

    1. Court Verification Letter
    2. Proof that you are under 26 years old at the beginning of the academic year (as defined by the college)
    3. Be enrolled in at least 9 units at time of acceptance

    If you are elgible for NextUp (CAFYES), you may be eligible to receive the following: NextUp Grant, Transportation assistance (Gas card, parking pass), Housing & Mental Health Referrals, Books & Supplies.

  • VII. Other Programs:

    EOPS student's are encouraged to be a part of other programs at LASC.
  • DSPS Student's will be required to be bring verification letter from DSPS.

  • VIII. Photo/Video Release Waiver:

    I understand that LASC, as well as EOPS, CARE, NextUP and its affiliates reserve the right to use any photograph/video/material (spoken, written, or otherwise, "et al"), at any event that I attend that is sponsored by LASC. I hereby grant permission for my likeness, et al, to be used in, but not limited to; invitations, brochures, books, newsletters, presentations, television, websites, etc.
