    International Affairs Majors Only
  • Use this form to declare or drop a concentration. Students majoring in International Affairs must declare their concentration by the end of their sophomore year.

  • A concentration represents an academic functional or regional specialization within the field of International Affairs.

    • Concentrations consist of five pre-approved courses that represent at least two different academic departments (i.e. HIST and PSC).
    • A course may not be double-counted between the concentration and another requirement.
    • Each concentration has specific requirements - these requirements should be reviewed in the Bulletin:                                   http://bulletin.gwu.edu/international-affairs/undergraduate-programs/ba-international-affairs/#concentrationstext
    • Some concentrations require specific courses be included in the concentration. Required courses must be listed.

    Instructions:

    To DECLARE a concentration

    • Under “Please Select One” select “Declare Concentration.”
    • Under “Choose Concentration” select the name of the concentration you want to declare.
    • Enter the five courses you intend to take (or have taken) that will complete your concentration. (Note: If your planned courses change, you do not have to submit a new form, but you must be sure the new course(s) you choose is approved for your concentration.)
    • Complete the electronic signature.
    • Click the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
    • Your assigned advisor will review the form, and if there are no errors, you will see your declared concentration on your DegreeMAP audit within 8-10 business days.
    • If there are issues with the form, you will receive an email from your advisor alerting you of the issue, and you will be asked to resubmit the form.
    • If you wish to include a course in your concentration that has not been approved, you must submit a Course Substitution Request Form and receive a decision before completing this form.

    To DROP a concentration

    • Under “Please Select One” select “Drop Concentration.”
    • Under “Choose Concentration” select the name of the concentration you want to drop.
    • Write "NA" at least once per row in the table at the bottom of the page.
    • Complete the electronic signature.
    • Click the “Submit” button at the end of the form.
    • Your assigned advisor will review the form, and if there are no errors, you will see that your concentration has been removed from your DegreeMAP audit within 8-10 business days.
    • If there are issues with the form, you will receive an email from your advisor alerting you of the issue, and you will be asked to resubmit the form.
