Break Housing Agreement & Application
Requests for break housing must be completed by the deadlines as outlined below. There will be no exceptions made after this deadline.
Seniors: Seniors who are not participating in Senior Week may apply to stay up until the morning of Commencement, May 13, 2017. The cost to stay on campus until that date is $150. Break housing is charged for the entire break, there is no discount for early departure or for partial stays. The $150 total includes meals. Once application is approved by Campus Life, resident must pay the $150 fee no later than May 8, 2017 at 4:00pm or their application will be cancelled. When paying fee, please be sure to put in the comment box "Senior". Seniors may want to consider paying for an All Access Pass to Senior Week for only $130, which includes housing and access to all events. Tickets can be purchased online until May 8, 2017 at mcseniorweek2017.eventbrite.com.
Residents: If a resident needs to stay later than Tuesday, May 10 at 5:00pm they must apply to break housing. The cost to stay on campus is $50/day. Once application is approved by Campus Life, resident must pay the total fee no later than May 8, 2017 at 4:00pm or their application will be cancelled. When paying fee, please be sure to put in the comment box "Late Stay".
May MiniMester Students: Residents who are taking May MiniMester classes may apply to stay until the start of classes on May 15, 2017. The cost to stay on campus until that date is $300 (housing during May MiniMester is a separate fee and is available to apply for on the May MiniMester registration website). Break housing is charged for the entire break, there is no discount for early departure or for partial stays. The $300 total includes meals. Once application is approved by Campus Life, resident must pay the $300 fee no later than May 8, 2017 at 4:00pm or their housing application will be cancelled. When paying fee, please be sure to put in the comment box "May Break Housing".
Application Deadlines:
- Residents must apply for break housing no later than Friday, April 28, 2017 at 5:00pm. Late applications will not be considered. Residents will be notified if their application has been approved by Monday, May 1, 2017.
- Applications will automatically be denied for students who have any conduct record of a serious nature (alcohol or substance abuse, residence hall or conduct probation, vandalism, security or safety violations etc.) or have an outstanding balance with the College.
- The fee must be paid online at https://mitchell.diamondmindinc.com/ with a credit card, debit card, or electronic check. Please make sure to put "Senior", "Late Stay" OR "May Break Housing" in the comment box. You must print the confirmation page and provide to Curtis J. Clark, Assistant Director of Campus Life by the above deadline. The fee cannot be charged to student account and must be paid all at once by the above deadline.
- If a resident needs to stay later than Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 5:00pm due to travel arrangements they can request a late stay up to Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 5:00pm by contacting their Campus Life Coordinator (CLC). If a resident needs to stay later than Tuesday, May 10 at 5:00pm they must apply to break housing.
Break Housing Policies and Procedures
- The exterior doors of the residence halls will be locked at all times. It is the student's responsibility to check each door that he or she uses to ensure that it is locked and closed tightly. Residence halls will be electronically monitored. Students must not prop open doors, give their ID to another person, or allow access to any unauthorized person.
- You are encouraged to exercise care and caution during breaks. More importantly, please report any suspicious individual to Campus Safety at (860) 443-0214. Campus Safety Officers will patrol the campus on a regular schedule during breaks. A list of students authorized to stay in residence halls during break is provided to Campus Safety. Any unauthorized student will be asked to leave the building and referred for a break housing violation to the Assistant Director of Campus Life.
- There will be Campus Life Staff on-call for emergency issues ONLY.
- If requested by any College official (including RA's), you will comply in accordance with the Student Handbook. No one is permitted in the residence halls during break except those students whose application has been approved. No visitation by anyone (other than immediate family) is permitted during break. If you allow an unauthorized person access to the residence halls your break housing privileges will be revoked immediately.
- Facilities and other College officials may have to enter my room for maintenance or other necessary up-keep of the residence halls.
- All College policies are in effect over the break.
Violation of the above policies and procedures, other applicable College policies, and local, state, and federal laws during breaks are subject to immediate revocation of the privilege of being in the residence hall during break, double fines, and other sanctions as appropriate.
