    • Foster Application

    e-mail: whitekissesgdr@gmail.com

Keep in mind when filling out our foster application, that we rescue mostly deaf/blind/special needs danes, but we do also rescue normal healthy danes. Fosters do not get the pick the dog placed in the home. We place our dogs at the foster home that is the best fit for the dog’s needs. We take placement extremely seriously, whether foster or adoption. Foster families are not allowed to adopt their first two foster dogs.

We are pro-spay/neuter and can't allow you to foster if you have unfixed animals in your home. Your pets must also be current on vaccinations, heartworm prevention and vet care.

White Kisses GDR reserves all rights to deny any application at any time for any reason.

The entire application must be filled out, we will not process an incomplete application.

  • Veterinary Reference

Even if you don't currently have pets, but have had pets in the past 5 years, you must list that vet. ALL animals in the home must be fixed, UTD on vaccinations and current on vetting in order to foster for us. We will call your vet to confirm information on pet(s), how many pets you actually have, vaccinated, fixed, health, etc.

  • All dogs will go into foster care with a collar and identification tags. All dogs are also micro-chipped. Collar and identification tags are NOT to be removed for any reason.

  • Again - a home check is required in order for your application to be approved.

  • White Kisses GDR is responsible for the cost of basic vetting (vaccinations, micro-chipping, spay/neuter) and any other natural vet bills that are incurred while the dog is under White Kisses GDR's care. All dogs will arrive in their foster homes with a collar and ID tags.

By submitting this application, you agree that ALL of the information you have provided is correct.  You understand that providing untruthful answers or failure to comply with the requirements of this application can result in the refusal of White Kisses GDR approving your application.

By submitting this application, you also agree to allow our representative contact the references you have provided.  You understand that a home check is required. We reserve the right to refuse any applicant.

Because White Kisses GDR is a 501(c)3 rescue, all bills incurred from fostering, as well as milage for transporting fosters is tax deductible. Please save your receipts from money spent on your foster and turn them into us monthly so we can get you a tax receipt for your expenses.

Note: We require weekly check-ins from fosters which includes photos of the dog as well as an update on training and personality of the dog.

  • Foster Guidelines

    Frequently Asked Questions

White Kisses GDR is looking for caring, responsible Great Dane lovers to join our foster team by opening their hearts and homes to a rescued great dane. Our foster system allows volunteers to provide our orphans with a home environment in order to evaluate their habits, behaviors and rehabilitate them into adoptable family members. While the owners and board members of White Kisses GDR personally handle every dog at some point, our dogs do best with more personalized one on one care, attention and training that can be receive in foster homes.

Since fosters get to know each foster dog personally as well, they will be the source that helps White Kisses GDR make a better match between the dog and their adoptive family. We strive to place each dog in the home that is right for them.

  • Is fostering for me?

Foster parents should be able to make a commitment to spend time with the foster dog and give all the exercise, love and attention the dog requires and needs. These dogs often need special care that requires actual time and effort. We expect you to treat the foster dog as if he/she is part of your own pack/family, but remembering you’re getting this sweet dog ready for his/her very own family, which he/she so desperately deserves.

  • What will I need to do as a foster parent?

Foster homes are meant to provide a stable environment for the foster dog. Foster parents are responsible for the daily care of the foster dog including feeding, exercising, medicating (if necessary, although we rarely allow dogs with medical needs to go to foster homes), socializing, grooming, basic training, crate training, leash work, observing and evaluating general behavior and temperament. You are providing love assisted security at a difficult time in his/her life.

  • Do I need a fenced yard?

Yes, unless we decide otherwise. Most of these dogs are damaged in one way or another. Whether they are deaf, blind or simply runners, it is our job to provide them with the safest environment for them. We expect our dogs to be on leash at all times when not in a secure fenced in area.

  • Do I have to stay with the dog all day?

No. Fosters often have jobs, families and lives. We do understand that, since we do personal lives as well. Regardless, you must still provide a quality home environment for the dog. Again, treating this dog as you would your own. Whether you kennel or have someone stop by to let the dog out while you are away, you are responsible for this dogs’ daily needs. Our first concern is safety. For you, your family, your dog(s) and for the rescue dog. For these reasons, we require that the dog's caregiver confines the foster dog in a secure area (preferably a crate) every time the foster is unable to directly supervise the foster dog. We do not allow our WK dogs to be left outside all day and/or night while nobody's home.

  • What if I have young kids in my home?

We won’t place a dog that we feel isn't good with kids, in a home with kids, but it is the foster's responsibility to make sure the kids ALWAYS respect our dog.

Do not leave young children unattended with any dog. Don’t leave bones/treats around the house when children are present. Please be cautious and observant when children are eating and the dog is in the room. Crate the dog when there are children under 5 in the home eating/sleeping to avoid accidents.

No matter how tolerant the White Kisses' dog is, DO NOT ALLOW your child to kick, pull, pinch, poke, harass, tease or torment the dog at any time. Dogs are animals, regardless of their temperament and we want to make sure everyone is safe and everyone is respectful towards the dog.

No child under 14yo should walk the dog unless supervised by an adult. Whenever children are in the house with a dog, the child is at risk of being accidentally knocked over, scratched or bitten, etc. Do not leave multiple dogs in the same room unattended. Do not feed the dogs in the same room. If at anytime, you have ANY concerns or feel uncomfortable with a situation between the dog and child, please call us immediately. We will either remove the dog from your home or have a trainer meet with you and the dog, depending on the severity of the situation.

  • What if I go on vacation or travel for my job?

Unfortunately, at this time, White Kisses GDR does not have the facilities to temporarily house foster dogs. As a result, foster caregivers often develop support systems to provide care in their absence or they stagger the times they can foster. Some schedule vacations between fosters or find pet sitters or family members to step in when they have to leave. We do ask that you let us know  so we are aware of where the foster is and so that we can help in the process. Sometimes we have other fosters or a White Kisses representative that can dog sit for a short period of time. Boarding is also another option, but that is at your own cost and this needs to be discussed with a White Kisses representative as well.

  • How much does it cost to foster a dog?

Here are the expenses that you will encounter as a foster: good quality dog food, (we do not require a specific food to be fed in most cases), bedding, treats and any toys you wish to provide.

All necessary veterinary expenses are paid by White Kisses GDR. Any expenses you spend on your foster dog are tax deductible. Please save ALL of your receipts and mail them to us so we can send you a tax receipt. PO Box 64518 Lubbock, TX 79464

  • May I choose which dog I foster?

A White Kisses GDR representative will work with you to select the best suited dog for your home. Your foster application will allow you to specify some requirements but you will not get to outright pick a specific dog. You should keep in mind that some rescue dogs may not be house-broke, may be deaf/blind, may have had little socialization or obedience training. Despite these challenges, foster homes are a place they flourish. We DO NOT allow our foster to adopt their first 2 foster dogs.

We try to match the foster and dog to what the foster can offer the dog. For example; a foster that goes out often and has lots of dog friendly venues around them can offer more socializing to a dog that may need more help with people socailizing.

  • Will I become attached to my foster dog?

99% of the time, yes, you will become attached, especially to your first foster. Great danes are a very special breed and bond very quickly to their families. Foster dogs often hold a very special place in our hearts. When you see your foster dog heading to his/her new family that's ready to provide a loving permanent home for the dog you helped rescue, you will feel more than satisfied to see him/her move on to his new and amazing life. Keep in mind, our adoption process is extensive, not everyone gets to adopt from us. We do our absolute best to place these dogs in the homes we feel are the best fit for the dog. These new families are hand picked by us and have passed our entire adoption process. We stay in contact with these families, who have been come extended family to us.

  • What if I want to adopt my foster dog?

If you decide to foster, it should be with the understanding that you are working toward helping a deserving great dane prepare for his/her "forever home", not "trying out" a great dane you may later wish to adopt.

While we LOVE a foster failure, it usually takes that foster off the market to foster in the future. You, as a foster, will be treated the same as any adopter should you decide you adopt. You will have to complete the White Kisses Adoption Application, normal adoption fees apply and have to comply with the same Adoption Contract every adopter agrees too.

We do not allow fosters to adopt the first foster dog that goes to their home. Special needs puppies are not available for foster, they stay with the owners of White Kisses GDR until they are 5/6 months of age then can go to foster care.

  • What happens after I have a foster dog?

Congratulations for being part of a very special dogs life! You will be in contact with a White Kisses representative the entire time you have a foster dog in your home.

We require that you check in with us once a week, whether it be a phone call, e-mail, Facebook, etc, keeping us up to date on how the new foster is adjusting, any personality problems, training issues, how they do with kids, dogs, cats, etc.

We need to know the good and the bad so that we can make a bio for the foster dog to share with potential adopters and best match the dog to their potential families.

We also require weekly photos. We have no problems with you fostering for another rescue, but we do require you to tell us prior to, when you're bringing a new animal in to the home. If we feel the change in enviornment is not right for our dog, we may swap dogs to a better fit.

Not every rescue fixes and vets their pets prior to going into foster care, which can also be an issue. It is our decision as to where and who our dog is around.

  • Can I arrange meet and greets?

Absolutely not! We only allow meet and greets with approved adopters. We have no problems with you taking your foster dog in public and allowing people to enjoy our dog, but one on one meet and greets are only to be arranged by a White Kisses GDR representative. We are non-negotiable on this: meet and greets are handled exclusively by WKGDR owners or board members.

  • Can I send my foster dog on a sleep over?

Absolutely not! Your foster dog cannot EVER be in someone else’s home without you unless we have given permission. We will probably NEVER give permission to have a sleep-over or weekend trial. Accidents can happen, dogs can go missing, not everyone understands our dog’s quirks, etc. Our dog’s safety is our concern. We have to know where our dog is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While you are our dog’s foster family, this dog belongs to White Kisses GDR.

  • What happens when my foster dog is adopted?

Finding out that your foster dog is adopted can be both a happy and sad time for you and your family. We try to let fosters know when we have approved applications on their foster dogs so they can prepare themselves and their families for the dog’s potential adoption.

We don’t usually allow fosters to deliver their foster dogs to adopters (except under special circumstances). This is something that the owners of White Kisses GDR try to handle personally every time.

There are Adoption Contracts and other forms to still be filled out and discussed; which is not something a foster should ever handle. We have personally handpicked this home for this particular dog. We feel in our hearts that this home is the best fit for this dog and they’re about to have a very amazing and special life with a family that is head over heels in love with them. They won’t be just a foster dog- they will be a loved family member with a family devoted to just them. You prepared our dog for that kind of love and you should feel so rewarded for that.

We do not allow our foster to contact our adopters without White Kisses GDR permission. Confidentiality is something we take serious within the rescue and we do not condone anyone breaking this rule. We handle Animal Cruelty cases, and other delicate situations, so confidentialy needs to be respected.

  • Photo Waiver: I hereby grant my permission to White Kisses GDR and its officers, trustees, agents, representatives, successors, licensees and assigns to photograph my image, likeness or depiction and/or that of my minor children (if applicable). I hereby grant permission to White Kisses GDR to edit, crop or retouch such photographs and waive any right to inspect final photographs. I hereby consent to and permit photographs of me and/or that of my minor children to be used by White Kisses GDR for any purpose and in any medium, including print and electronic. I understand that White Kisses GDR may use such photographs with or without associating names thereto. I further waive any claim for compensation of any kind for White Kisses GDR’s publication of photographs of me and/or those of my minor children.

  • Please let us know if you have any other questions and if you can help us house a great dane in need until his/her forever home can be found.

By signing this document, you are saying that you have read these guidelines, understand and agree to them.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this application.  You will be contacted by phone after we have processed your application. The application process takes about 3-5 business days. Keep in mind that we have full time jobs, families, our own pets outside of our rescue,as well as the rescue itself. This means dogs in our rescue, vetting, fosters, transports, adoptions, etc on top of our personal lives. We are a small but extremely busy operation. We do our absolute best to work applications in a timely manner.

If you feel we have taken to long to call you, please feel free to send us a message to whitekissesgdr@gmail.com.
