Some typical budget items include: Airfare, Transportation, Visa fees, Health Insurance, Housing, Food, Tuition or other fees, projected income, books or other supplies.

Please note - if you are including a request for equipment, it is helpful to address campus resources in your proposal.

  • Designate a Mentor for your project

  • Please designate a mentor for your project. This voluntary role is assumed primarily by faculty, but it is also open to staff at The New School. The mentor's main responsibility is to check in with the awardee at the mid-point of the experience and to review the awardee's final blog post.

If the chosen faculty or staff member is not available or the student does not have a particular person in mind, a member of the Student Life and Outreach Committee will serve as the mentor.

If you would like a member of the Student Life and Outreach Committee to serve as the mentor please write "assign" in the two mentor questions below.

  • Recommendation Letter

  • A strong recommendation letter compliments your application and allows the committee to learn more about your work and how it fits into your overall pathway or personal goals.

Remember to give your recommender proper notice so that they're able to sumbit a great letter for you. 1-2 weeks of notice is recommended.

Think about providing your recommender with a draft of your project/activity description, personal statement, and proposed budget and additional funding to help them provide context in their letter.

Your recommender should submit his or her recommendation through the Recommendation Form. Recommendations must be received no later than two days after the application deadline by noon.
